If I Look at Her Long Enough, by Puppy

Posted on November 24, 2023

She will read my mind.

She will understand that I need the cookie

The last one in the bowl

The one only I know is there.

If I stay perfectly still and do not blink

my brown eyes kept riveted to her face

If I muster all my will to send beams of energy

out through my retinas and into her brain

Then

Eyes never leaving the page

she will reach out,

her left hand

finding the bowl

in one smooth move.

she grasps

the cookie and

Extends it to me

In a gesture that says

“Now go away”.
